Droit d'asile
The right of asylum is a fundamental right that allows anyone persecuted in their country of origin to request international protection in France. This right is guaranteed by the French Constitution and by the 1951 Geneva Convention. Asylum applications are examined by OFPRA (French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons). In case of rejection, the applicant can appeal to the CNDA (National Court of Asylum). If protection is granted, the person obtains refugee status or subsidiary protection, giving them the right to reside and work in France.
Example
Fleeing an armed conflict, Youssef submitted an asylum application to OFPRA and was granted refugee status, allowing him to live and work in France.
