Naturalisation
Naturalization is the procedure by which a foreigner can acquire French nationality by decree of the Prime Minister. To be eligible, the applicant must generally have resided in France regularly for at least five years, demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the French language (minimum B1 oral level), provide evidence of integration into French society, and adhere to the principles and values of the Republic. The procedure includes an assimilation interview at the prefecture and a civic exam covering the history, culture, and institutions of France.
Example
After five years of residence in France, Maria submitted a naturalization application to the prefecture and underwent an interview to demonstrate her knowledge of the language and values of the Republic.
