Securite sociale

Social Security (Securite sociale) is the French social protection system, created in 1945 by the provisional government's ordinances. It is based on the principle of national solidarity and covers four main branches: health (reimbursement of healthcare costs), old age (retirement pensions), family (family allowances), and workplace accidents. Primarily funded by social contributions from employers and employees, Social Security guarantees every resident coverage against life's risks. It is a pillar of the French social model and is part of the knowledge expected on the civic exam.
Example

Thanks to Social Security, when an employee visits a doctor, a large portion of the medical costs is reimbursed by the Health Insurance system (Assurance maladie).
