Reading short texts (notices, articles, emails) followed by multiple-choice questions. Assesses everyday and administrative reading comprehension.

Listening Comprehension

29 questions · 25 minutes · audio

Listening to recordings (announcements, conversations, radio excerpts) with multiple-choice questions. Up to two listens for A2/B1 levels.

Speaking

Live interview · 12 minutes

One-on-one interview with an examiner in 3 tasks: introduction, exchanging information, expressing a point of view.

01Is the TCF IRN mandatory?+

Yes. Since 2026, the TCF IRN has been mandatory for any application for a multi-year residence permit, a resident card or French naturalization.

02What level do I need to reach?+

The required level depends on your procedure: A2 for the multi-year residence permit, B1 for the resident card (10 years), B2 for French naturalization.

03What are the TCF IRN tests?+

The TCF IRN includes three tests: Reading Comprehension (CE), Listening Comprehension (CO) and Speaking (EO).

04How long does the test last?+

Total duration is around 1h20: 25 minutes of listening comprehension, 45 minutes of reading comprehension and 12 minutes of speaking (interview).
